The moment I purchased my first professional camera, although a bit hesitant, I had a feeling this was going to be a very long-term affair. Boy was I right. A few years after college I had finally saved-up enough money to purchase my very first professional camera. For as many times as I frequented the local camera store, I must have driven the sales-guys crazy with my constant questions.
Keep in mind, other than my father’s 35mm SLR and a simple point and shoot I received for Christmas one year, I was as naïve as they came. I hadn’t the first clue about how a camera worked nor how to properly operate one, yet later that afternoon, I walked away with my wallet $2K lighter.
When finally asked about it, the best answer I could come up with was: “ I wanted something I could learn on and not worry my abilities would eventually exceed the camera’s capabilities.”
Fast forward several years…we moved, had a couple more kids, worked a lot of weird jobs and eventually came across an interesting article about vintage lenses that really seemed to open up my eyes and helped me discover a new facet of photography I was unprepared for.
