Biography

J.G. Solomon is known for pushing the boundaries of creativity in composition, posing, lighting, editing and all-things photography.

Style

With the finesse of a designer and the brilliance of a tactician, J.G. Solomon’s style can be described as contemporary vintage meets photojournalistic lifestyle. Known for exploring creativity and thinking out of the box, he not only has the technical skills, but the ability to direct clients, models and even large wedding groups to create special moments out of thin air.

His ability to create powerful storytelling visuals comes from years of working with thousands of clients and telling their unique stories through his photos. With a blend of drama, flare, soul and light, he has the ability to bring out the best of anyone in any situation.

Over the years, borrowing elements from fashion as well as street and lifestyle photography, his personal style and even his approach has continued to evolve. Even after fifteen years of professionally shooting, not a day goes by where he isn’t trying to push the boundaries and reinvent himself.

Beginning

Born in 1982, he became infatuated with photography in high school when the father of a close friend purchased their first SLR. After completing high school in 2000, photography took a back seat as he pursued a degree in Music Composition. In late 2006, he resigned from his job manufacturing specialty food products to pursue, at the time, a seasonal photography position with a local studio.

Self-taught and eager to learn as much as possible, he not only completed all tasks required of his position, but in the studio - would spend countless hours in his off-time perfecting lighting scenarios on mannequin heads. In 2007, he started his own photography business photographing weddings and engagements.

Reinvention

For the next several years, as a stay at home father and working night-shifts, he became a serious weekend warrior. Sporting the latest and greatest of camera gear, it wasn’t until 2016 until he stumbled onto the idea of using vintage lenses on his digital equipment. While such a simple concept of adapting equipment, he began learning more in-depth about the history of lenses, famous photographers, technique and stylistic approaches and just the overall history of photography as a whole.

Commitment

To say the least, he’s considered a photographer’s photographer. His ability to coach and direct models and clients is uncanny and unsurpassed. His ability to “Get the shot” stems from years of experience well as his vast array of technical and photo-editing knowledge. With published works and gallery prints all over the Northwest, although considered an expert, he continues to innovate, study the work of the masters and produce top-tier work for clients and himself.
